Get to Know the 2009 Forum and its Participants

Very shortly, I will be posting the first set of links to recommended background reading and viewing to help participants prepare for the 2009 Forum. In the meantime, I'd like to make the following suggestions to get you started:

1. Read through the published reports of the Arab-US Media Forum, which include summaries of the topics covered, issues raised and recommendations made to date. There are three reports, each accessible via the buttons on the right side of the main page: Dead Sea Scrolling (blue), Framing the Other (brown) and Through the Looking Glass (green).

2. Get to know more about the participants in the upcoming Forum (participation is by invitation only) by looking at members' profile page. Some have included short bios. If you haven't already done so, you can easily upload your bio to your profile page. We will have printed biographies of participants in your Welcome Packet when you arrive.

3. Review the activities of participants, their organizations and other interesting projects by clicking on the Blogroll and Important Links selections. We have tried to include topically relevant links associated with each Forum participant, as well as a few others that we think are worth a look. My apologies if we have missed anyone--please contact me to add other links to this list!

4. The three Groups -- Arab-US Partnerships, U.S. Media and Arab Media -- currently include the recommendations that came out of our meeting at the Dead Sea last year, with notations for some outcomes that have already occurred. This information is no doubt incomplete, and so we ask participants with a particular interest in any of these areas to help us compile information for interesting projects that are taking place within these three spheres (that is, involving cross-border partnerships in group 1, or specifically within the U.S. media industry or within the Arab media world in groups 2 or 3). Feel free to start individual discussion topics or to create a new group for your specific areas of interest. This is, after all, your network.
